Millefiori glass bead is a magnificent
glass bead whose production started in the late nineteenth century.
Literally it means "thousand flowers" which is reflective of the
true nature of the bead. These millefiori glass beads are entirely made up of cane slices which are
combined together and are wound around the rod, which is later converted
into a spherical shape. The beads have complex patterns and endless designs,
which reflects the multi step process involved in its construction.
The manufacturing of millefiori glass bead is based on the "mosaic
technique" in which glasses of different colors are arrange together
with sufficient heat, in order to allow them to fuse together. Later on,
these glasses are melted onto the surface of a bead. The resulting pattern
resembles either flower, or some abstract pattern or realistic scenes. Millefiori beads are gracefully colorful and eternally wonderful. The millefiori bead can be
given any number of shapes and sizes like circular, oval cylindrical,
square, pea shape etc.
